Listening Sheep
Do you listen to God? How do you listen to God?
Personal Relationship with Jesus= Believer
No personal Relationship with Jesus= non-believer
Personal Relationship with Jesus:
Believer gathers facts and asks God what His will is. This is done in Prayer.
Do you have a personal relationship with someone who doesn’t reply back?
How personal can that be?
Imagine how God feels, are you responding to Him? Are you listening? Cultivating relationships that will grow strong and eternal?
Hearing God is NOT something you do; it’s someone YOU are!
John 10:1 “I assure you and most solemnly say to you, he who does not enter by the door into the sheepfold, but climbs up from some other place, that one is a thief and a robber.”
Here Jesus is contrasting himself as the good shepherd with the thief/robber satan.
Vs. 2 “But he who enters by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. Vs 3. The doorkeeper opens the gate for this man, and the sheep hear his voice and pay attention to it. V4 When he was brought all his own sheep outside, he walks on ahead of them, and the sheep will follow him because they know his voice and recognize his call.”
His voice is The Bible
Vs 11 “I am the Good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.”
Vs. 16 “I have other sheep that are not of this fold. I must bring those also, and they will listen to My voice and pay attention to my call, and they will become one flock with one shepherd.”
John 10:27 “The sheep that are my own hear my voice and listen to me. I know them, and they follow me.”
When you become a born-again child of God (click here if you are unsure, or want to become a child of God- this is your eternal decision, and I encourage you to do so) as His sheep you have the ability to hear His voice.
Our God is a speaking God, we were created in His image with the ability to communicate with Him and He to us. Why would He create you without the ability to communicate back and forth? God gave us the ability to communicate our deepest feelings with Him. He is our confidence, our reverence, our ultimate Therapist, our Shepherd.
We also grow in our faith journey and LEARN to Listen to God. For example, children have the ability to talk but must be taught proper speech and grammar.
Listen to God in prayer—don’t just pray a to-do list! God desires more than just being told to answer this prayer, and negotiate our desires, He calls us to trust in His will. God intended prayer to be communication between a Father and His children. He yearns for us to reveal our inmost desires, thoughts, feelings. He wants communication to be reciprocated.
Our prayer journey with God matures as we mature. Don’t expect to be a wise child full of discernment and understanding when you are just a baby. With that being said, if you are hard on yourself, like I am, allow growing and learning in this process.
But never cease to seek Him! Growth cannot happen without time, and reverence. We sow the seed we reap!
